7 Painting tips to deal with humidity in the house

7 Painting tips to deal with humidity in the house

Humidity is one of the most common problems in a home. Creates damage to walls, ceilings and various furniture. To reduce the humidity levels in your home you can follow the following Montclair painting tips.

Painting tips to deal with humidity

1. Ventilation of spaces

One of the most important factors in reducing humidity in a room is good ventilation. It is necessary to ventilate almost every day the space where we live.

2. Ventilation system in the bathroom and hood in the kitchen

3. Roof insulation

If the moisture comes from the roof the only effective solution is proper insulation and painting.

4. Dealing with construction problems

If you have moisture on the balcony, one of the most likely causes is a problem with the upstairs balcony. In this case, inspection by a technician is necessary.

5. Application of special sealing materials

If there is moisture on the side walls of the house, the solution is to apply special waterproofing materials. The surface must be properly prepared before applying the sealant.

6. Avoid indoor plants

7. Dehumidifier or moisture collectors

Prefer house painting to avoid moisture

Painting a house in Montclair is one of the quickest and easiest ways to give your home a “lifting” – and it is a way that can produce impressive results. Unfortunately, for many homeowners, this can be a daunting task. To avoid getting stuck with a less than perfect color choice, you will need to spend hours studying the subtle shades between the color samples, taking into account the mood they want to create. Fortunately, interior painting does not have to be that difficult.

Before painting we choose the colors with you. On one surface we try some of the colors you would like to see how the color interacts with the natural light of the room and decide more finally it fits best in each space. And you can compare it with design elements, such as pillows or furniture, to see if it will work with your overall decor.

Calculation of room painting costs

When estimating the cost, Montclair Painters will start with how much paint they will need to complete the job. To know this, they must first know the size of the area to be covered. The easiest way to calculate the size of the surface that can be painted is to add together the length of the wall and multiply it by the width of the room from floor to ceiling. The resulting amount is the square footage of the room. This set is a starting point, as not all surfaces are to be painted. Montclair painters will not paint windows and doors, for example, and must account for the roof and boards.

The next step is to remove the area of the doors and windows – along with the square footage of the cladding and boards – to get an average. Then use the same calculation (length x width) for windows, doors, finishes and boards and subtract all these numbers. The result of this equation is the square length of the walls of the room. This is your surface number. (Montclair painters will usually add a small square length back to this amount to calculate additional colors that may be required.)

Room painting cost factors

Here are some other cost factors to consider when it comes to the cost of painting a room:

Size of the room to be painted

The size of the space to be painted is the most important factor in determining the cost of professional painting. It will take more than one Montclair painter to cover a large room from a small room, and that means higher labor costs in addition to supplies and time. When estimating color for such a job, keep in mind that one liter of paint covers about 10 square meters (although the label claims it will cover more). You will also be charged for the number of paint containers you need, among other factors.

Rough walls

A wall with a rough surface will need more paint than a smooth wall. The texture adds more surface area, although it does not increase the square footage. The determination of the additional surface depends on how much texture there is. Montclair painters probably estimate about 25 to 30 extra square feet of paint to calculate texture.

Speed factor

The speed with which a Montclair painter can complete the job will determine his final cost, but time is difficult to estimate. Some Montclair painters have more experience and cover a wall faster, but some are more methodical and need more time. Most should be able to cover about 10 square feet of flat surface in an hour unless they are working on a very large wall. Wood or plaster surface can reduce this amount to 8 square meters. You should also consider the time it takes for a first coat to dry before applying a second coat. This will add time as well – from one to 48 hours, depending on the color.

Many rooms or the whole house

If you decide to paint many rooms in your home, choose colors that are related to each other without being completely the same – unless uniformity is your goal, of course. Costs may vary depending on the color, gloss and size of the room. However, each room will go according to the color of the casing – which should be white – to make them look connected. A color scheme throughout the house presents the same cost factors as painting multiple rooms individually: the colors you choose, the gloss, the size of the rooms and the time to work. You can choose to use the same color throughout your home to save money or you can use a combination of colors with the same gloss.

Interior painting cost factors

Generally, they will need at least 8 liters of paint to cover a room. The color comes in three different finishes: matte, semi-glossy or glossy. Matte finishes are the least shiny and are suitable for areas that require frequent cleaning. The semi-glossy finishes are a bit shiny but can also be easily cleaned. The high gloss finish is stain resistant and easy to clean. Traditionally, living rooms should be painted with a matte finish to allow the color to stand out. Glossy finishes should be intended for hallways. Invest in pre-primed paint whenever possible. This saves time by combining the stratification process. Almost any painting job will require a primer. The primer helps the paint stand out from the paint substrate it covers, especially if the new paint is lighter than the old one. You will need at least two boxes of primer, if not more, to cover one wall.

Required materials

Montclair painters will usually provide most of the materials for a project, but you can only pay for the work if you provide all the materials yourself. These supplies include, films, paper towels, color tray.

How to choose a house painter

The house painter is a classic job that presents many hidden difficulties. Like painting, even the decoration of the rooms is an art. Too many are those who think it is an easy job with obvious implications. Often they turn to a son, a grandson, a friend to paint the walls of a house and a room, often with disastrous results.

An aparentemente easy, in a short time it can become stressful, and so, something had to be done in one or two days, can come to take weeks and with very disappointing results. So what are the basic points for choosing a painter?

There are many products that are seen in shopping centers and that promise miracles. To be honest, a good professional painters of Gikas Painting in Montclair, with good professional training and experience, needs nothing more than a roller and a brush, a ladder, and a good product.

Choose a professional house painter

If you go to professionals, there are some points that need to be clarified. In this case, it is quite common to meet people who promise wonders and end up doing a terrible job.
Don’t believe too much in the advertisement or description of an advertisement. Obviously, everyone is good at speaking well about their work but few then fully reflect it in the implementation phase.

In this case, it is always better to rely on ‘ experience of friends or acquaintances that you can recommend a good painter who has already worked with them. In case you don’t know anyone who can advise you, then ask for more than a quote or search on the internet for what would be a reasonable price for what you ask for.

The quote is generally free, it is part of the work of these people and there is nothing wrong with refusing it. If the price seems too high, look for another solution by politely dismissing the craftsman.

Surely you will have to try to refer to a painter who carries out this activity as his main profession, as he will certainly be able to do a better job than those who, on the other hand, simply take care of rounding thanks to the whitewashing of the walls.

Also, if the painter has been recommended to you by another person, try to take a moment to evaluate the work he has done. The walls of your friend’s house will speak much more than any kind of personal opinion.

You can, for example, notice if the painter has left stains of color, if he has not covered the skirting board well, or if he has limited himself in the choice of paint, opting for poor quality materials.

The guarantees to be requested from a house painter

Part of the choice is also determined by the guarantees people can offer you. Clarify immediately the time it will take to complete the work, and ask them what guarantees they offer, that is, which they are willing to give you in case further delays arise.

Ask them how many people will come to work and consider any advice they are willing to offer you, or corrections to your idea: it is a symptom of professionalism to identify from the beginning what problems they will encounter. If they ask you for a quote, it is usually to buy the material; do not pay for the work in advance because if something goes wrong it will be more difficult for them to return all the money; ask them for invoices and receipts for the material they are charging you, it is your right.

If you seem unwelcome to do so, you can always appeal to the fact that you need to get it off your taxes.

In many cases, moreover, the clients tend to want to save as much as possible by referring to the systems of sale of vouchers to obtain the whitewashing of the house. The advantage that you will have, for example, by choosing a coupon will certainly be the price, which will be very competitive.

However, in many cases, customers have reported bad experiences related to such systems: in fact, a house painter will certainly work less willingly if he knows he is being paid little. Since your home will need to be refreshed, the advice is always not to limit the price paid too much.

On the other hand, a professional always has the right to be fairly remunerated for the work done and this should be a detail not to be overlooked even in the case of a house painter.

How to behave during the activities of the painter

Once you have chosen your painter, you can agree on the day to start the work, also trying to coordinate the activities with your available time.

It may be advisable in these cases, as far as possible, to monitor the work, present yourself on the spot and check how it is progressing. For example, check the coverage that will be carried out before the work is carried out: the furniture must be covered, as well as the fixtures and the skirting board, in order to avoid requiring an exhausting cleaning at the end the whitewashing activities.

Remember that included in the service should also be the sanding of the walls and the cleaning of any drops of paint on objects and floors.

Always try to clarify every type of detail and do not be afraid to ask for clarification, even during the performance of the activities: sometimes a simple question can protect you from many subsequent problems and also from the classic misunderstandings that can occur in these cases.

Sometimes, small details increase empathy and make workers perform their tasks with more enthusiasm: you can offer from time to time a coffee, a drink, or a snack. Workers will appreciate you as a person and will do the job with the best of intentions.

Finally, before you get to pay the price for the work done, take care of:

  • Carry out a general “reconnaissance“, checking what the painter has done and if everything is as agreed
  • Evaluate together with the professional what types of interventions have been carried out, and if it is necessary to integrate the work performed
  • Review all the expenses that the painter has faced, also requesting the receipts or receipts for the material that he has actually purchased
  • Always ask for an invoice or receipt for the work they have done you. In this way, you can use these “proofs” to be able to deduct any expenses in the tax return. You will also avoid feeding illegal work and all the undeclared work that is often present at the level of craft activities in general.

How much does it cost to paint a house exterior?

After a few years, the house facade needs a nice exterior painting. These are always demanding jobs and in particular, if you live in a condominium the discussion about how much it costs to paint an external facade of the house is always very heated. Clearly knowing the cost of exterior painting is essential to sustain a discussion.

Certainly, in a condominium meeting, we are not only discussing the costs and prices of the paintings but also how to deal with the theme of aesthetics of the facade and the choice of exterior paints. Paints with silicates, quartz, siloxanche, self-cleaning, and many others. But also for the choice of paint and color, the first thing is the cost of external painting per square meter of the facade.

The goal of this article is to see in detail how much it costs to paint the exterior facade of your house. Read on to understand all the costs and prices for the exterior painting of a condominium facade.

The cost of external painting per square meter

The cost for exterior facade painting depends on several items. Wanting to give an average, we can assume that to paint the outside of the house you need about € 10 – € 40 per square meter. Let’s analyze what are the cost items that can affect the final price

  • Paint for exteriors: quartz, silicates, lime, siloxane
  • Plaster: to evaluate whether the existing plaster is good or damaged. if we have to shave and if we need plastering on the wall
  • Scaffolding: if you have to paint the facade of a house, you will need fixed or mobile scaffolding for small sizes.
  • Labor: The hourly cost of a house painter or construction company for large jobs
In addition to the type of paint that one chooses, the price of labor, scaffolding and other processes changes a lot depending on the paint preparation, interior painting or exterior painting. The market is very variable in Montclair.
For this reason, to know the prices well, ask for a quote to paint the grati s facade . Talk to the company or the specialized painter, have an inspection done and choose the best quote. When evaluating a quote, check if the material is included or is separate.

Painting for exteriors: prices per square meter per type

In the previous paragraph, we saw how much it costs to paint the exterior of the house and the exterior facade of the house considering all the components that generate the final price. Among these items, the price of exterior paint is an important variable that affects the total cost of painting a facade.

There are various types of outdoor paints, from ecological ones to washable, transpiring ones, and more. Each painting has a different cost per square meter and may require special processing. Let’s see some external painting prices with the most used paints.

Lime-based paint for exteriors

The lime paint for the exterior is a mineral product. It is the oldest outdoor paint and is made up of lime diluted in water with other natural components. Lime paint is natural, it does not contain toxic or plastic elements.

It is very breathable and is used for exterior facades that require excellent insulation. It resists temperature variations very well and guarantees the absence of mold. The cost of lime paint for exteriors starts from € 10 per square meter.

Siloxane paint for exteriors

The siloxane painting uses the siloxane resin as a binder. This resin has a high ability to repel water and promote evaporation to the outside. Due to these characteristics, siloxane paint has the best breathability among exterior paints and is also water-repellent.

Thanks to the resin it is very resistant to freeze-thaw cycles and to thermal changes. It resists mold and atmospheric agents very well. This paint can also be used for the interior of the house. The cost of siloxane paint is average starting from a price of € 11 per square meter.

Quartz paint for exteriors

The quartz paint is composed of water, resins, and tiny grains of quartz. The quartz grains fit into all the irregularities of the structure which is painted with quartz paint. This paint is also water repellent and resists mold and atmospheric agents.

Widely used in areas with high humidity. We also find it as a decorative element for balconies, terraces, and cornices. Extremely long-lasting. The price of quartz painting is among the cheapest starting from 7 € per square meter.

Silicate paint for exteriors

The silicate paint is based on potassium silicate. This paint is also mineral-based, potassium silicate. Since it is a paint that must chemically bond with the underlying substrate, it is not recommended to paint with a silicate paint directly over an existing paint.

When using this paint it is advisable to first proceed with the removal regardless of the color. It has great resistance to atmospheric agents, is breathable and water repellent. They are also used in areas of high humidity and exposed to bad weather. It has a high cost compared to the others, in fact, the price of external silicate painting starts from € 15 per square meter to go up.

Self-cleaning solvent-based paint for exteriors

The solvent-based paints are made with resins marketed in the form of granules. They are paints with particular characteristics. They can be applied and dried in any climatic condition, becoming resistant to rain immediately after application. Extreme durability and ease of application.

Self-cleaning exterior paints are resistant to alkali, mold, water. High breathability and water repellent. They are called self-cleaning paints because the dirt collected is removed by the action of rain. They are easy to maintain and very washable. Although the price of a solvent-based exterior paint starts at € 16 per square meter and up, the advantage of painting the facade with this paint is considerable.

The choice of paint for the exterior of the house

Now that we have briefly talked about the main exterior paints and have seen the price for painting the exterior with labor, the choice of paint does not remain. Silicates or quartz?  Siloxane or lime? Pliolite ok, but when?

The best thing is to rely on a painter or a construction company with experience, avoiding the do-it-yourself. Ask for a quote to paint the exterior facade of the house and talk to the company to decide on the best exterior paint for your condominium facade.

Change the color of the house exterior and facade

At this point, it is missing to choose the color for the external facade of the house. The choice of color changes if it is a condominium, a modern private villa, a country house, a farmhouse,… Let’s start with the condominium.

The choice of color depends on whether at the meeting it is approved to change the color of the exterior facade. The facade is an architectural element and the painting as routine maintenance must maintain the existing color.

In the case of private homes, unless there are town planning restrictions, you can do as you wish. For example, if you want to choose the color of the facade of a country house you could choose colors that contrast with the roof. Or use light colors to enhance the beauty of the country house surrounded by greenery.

The color of the facade of a modern house will have to stand out against the modern architectural choices of the house. We can have villas with extremely modern minimalist aspects. Let yourself be carried away by your taste but always contact a serious company to paint the facade of the house even if only to change the exterior color of the house.

External painting is ordinary or extraordinary maintenance

In addition to talking about how much it costs to paint the exterior of the house, a sensitive topic in any condominium is the type of work. Is exterior painting an ordinary or extraordinary maintenance?

The remaking of the painting, plasters, and facades cladding is an ordinary maintenance intervention if it is done with materials having the same characteristics and colors as the pre-existing ones.

So if we change the color with modifications, such as the type of fixtures, or by creating openings in the facade, we are carrying out extraordinary maintenance interventions.

6 things to know for beautiful roses

Rose, is one of the most widespread and recognizable ornamental plants with a large number of fans around the world. Many of us can remember the hundred-leafed rose plants from the yards of our grandmothers. We use to smelled its wonderful aroma and we have associated it with beautiful family moments. Roses live for many years and bloom from late spring to late autumn. It is a beautiful flowering shrub with impressive flowers, glossy green foliage and sharp thorns on the shoots.

There are hundreds of different types of rose plants.  Their flowers comes in beautiful colors, striking shapes and many sizes to choose from. Roses are an excellent choice of plant, with beautiful flowers for use with a vase, as well as to make unique bouquets.

The rose has the reputation of being a plant that needs special care. However, following some basic instructions for proper planting and care will impress us. In our article, we will refer in some things we need to know about the care of the rose. In this way, we area going to enjoy healthy roses with wonderful fragrant roses for many years.

The most well-known species and varieties of roses

The roses, depending on their growth, are divided into: dwarf varieties with low height, ground cover varieties that spread in the ground, shrub varieties, climbing varieties that grow vertically and tree roses that do not form in shape. Beyond that, it’s a matter of taste. We choose varieties and species of roses depending on the colors we like and the intensity of the aroma of the flowers.

An important factor to consider is to choose the right rose species, depending on the layout of our garden and balcony, as well as the available space we have. For example, if we want roses to cut flowers for the vase, we choose special shrub varieties, with large flower stems that are ideal for cut flowers.

If we plant in a pot on the balcony, we prefer dwarf roses or ground cover roses that have lower and lateral growth. And if we have small children at home, we choose rose varieties with fewer and smaller thorns. To create a tall fence around our garden and our yard or an impressive entrance in front of our house, we prefer to plant climbing or tree varieties of roses that have a higher height and a more imposing appearance.

Time to plant the roses

We can plant roses during all year. For plants that we have supplied in pots, which have a soil ball that holds the roots, we plant in the spring and summer. Barefoot rose plants are planted during the winter, to make root and give us leaves and flowering in the spring.

Prepare the soil for rose planting

It is important to properly prepare the soil for planting roses, as in this way the plant has better growth and gives us richer flowering. Before planting the rose, dig well and fine-tune the soil to a depth of 30–40 cm and remove any small stones. We dig a planting hole at least 20-30 cm in diameter, much larger than the soil ball of our plant pot when we took it from the nursery. Inside the planting hole, we incorporate well-digested manure. Also compost, to enrich the planting site of the rose with organic matter and nutrients.

At the same time, we improve the soil to ensure better rooting and plant growth. To plant the roses in pots, we use high quality topsoil, enriched with nutrients and perlite. At the same time, we ensure good drainage on the rose plants by placing a thin layer of gravel at the base of the pot to remove excess water.

Choose the right place to plant rose

Rose loves the sun and grows best in sunny places. We plant the roses in places where the sun can see them, so that they have a rich growth and give us more flowers. Even in a semi-shady position, the rose can survive by giving us enough flowers. We can plant roses in the ground to make a beautiful rose garden. Also, we can keep them in pots in the yard, on the balcony and on our terrace.

Roses in the garden
To create dense clusters in our garden, we plant the roses every 50 cm between them, leaving a distance of one meter between the clusters. To make a fence with roses, the planting distances are about one meter. Avoid planting roses near trees or other tall plants that may impede their growth.

Potted roses
The rose belongs to the plants that can withstand the cold. However, for rose plants that we keep in pots, we make sure to place them in places protected from the strong north winds and frost. We prefer a balcony with west or east orientation in order for our plants to grow better. We choose pots that have holes in the base to remove excess water from the watering. For dwarf or shrub varieties, we use pots with a diameter of about 20-30 cm and larger pots of about 30-40 cm for tree and climbing roses.

How often do roses need watering?

The rose needs frequent and rich watering to stay healthy with rich and prolonged flowering. An ideal way of watering is the drip irrigation system. That ensures greater efficiency and saves a significant amount of water. Indicatively, in the spring and autumn period, we water the roses once a week, while in the summer period 2 times a week. If our roses are in pots, we water more often, as the soil dries faster.

If we water the roses with the rubber, it needs a lot of attention. When watering, we take care not to throw water on the leaves and not to wet the foliage of the rose, in order to avoid the development of fungal diseases.

Time to put fertilizer on our roses

This plants has nutritious needs and we need to add fertilizer at different times of the year, to enjoy many long-lasting roses. Fertilization of the rose begins in late winter or early spring, after pruning. We use a complete granular or water-soluble fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron. Arboreal and climbing roses need fertilization twice a year, in late winter and early summer. Dwarf and bushy roses require regular fertilization every month from spring to autumn.

Due to regular watering and fertilizing, many unwanted grasses grow around the roots of the roses. This are the well-known weeds, and we should make regular carvings, to remove them around the plant. During the carving, the soil can be enriched with compost and compost.

We believe we had help you in this guide. Plants are hear to make our lifew colorful and optimistic. Don’t be afraid of trying to create an unique garden or just a beautiful roses balcony. Try the tips that we present you above and make the perfect flower spot in your residence.
