Septic tanks tips and solutions

Septic tanks tips and solutions

In many areas, there is often no organized sewerage network. This essentially means that the construction of a septic tank is a one-way street for the residents and professionals of these areas.
This is a job that must be done properly. Call Αποφράξεις Αναγνώστου Χαλάνδρι .
This way you should have no problems in the future with storage, sewage disposal and drainage of cesspools. Of course if at some point it is deemed necessary.

The purpose of the proper operation of a septic tank is to carry out an automated process of removal and disposal of wastewater from homes and businesses.

Under normal circumstances, this process should not bother you and make you tired over time, because when we finally get to the point of talking about septic tank evacuation, then there is definitely inconvenience and cost.

What exactly are septic tanks?

Pits are essentially large septic tanks constructed in a basement. It collects every day the sewage and dirty water that comes from homes or businesses, when they are outside the sewer system.

In the past, absorption cisterns were used much more, but today things have changed and biological cesspools are the most environmentally friendly solution and the one that requires less maintenance and that causes the fewest problems overall.

There are wells that can operate efficiently for many years, even without any maintenance or evacuation of wells. However, cesspool evacuations usually become necessary at some point, as all cesspools gradually lose their effectiveness.

There are really many cases of septic tanks that did not need to be emptied for more than 30 years and which, while never causing a problem, suddenly got to the point of requiring evacuation, even every week.

How septic tanks work

Pits are efficient in their operation through the completely natural process of decay. It is essentially a fermentation carried out by microorganisms, just as it is when the must is turned into wine.

Through the process of decay, wastewater is decomposed, and converted mainly into water. In this form, water is more easily absorbed by the soil (in the case of absorption wells and not watertight). When for some reason it is not possible to carry out this procedure, then the functionality of the septic tank ceases to be effective and consequently a lot of problems are created.

These problems mainly include odors and overflows with dirty water and solids, which certainly create undesirable situations. Then it is necessary to empty the pits.

There are certain bacteria in nature that carry out this process of decay and which are really useful. When in some cases (eg when these bacteria are killed by chemicals) sepsis ceases to be effective.

In some other cases again, the septic tank is filled with mud and with the continuous accumulation it loses its absorbency at some point. As a result, the water no longer has the ability to escape naturally and the result is that it accumulates until the septic tank is finally filled.

The correct construction of the septic tank

The construction of a septic tank is a process that must be done properly and planned. In the past, in many cases things were done quickly and casually, without any special study.

Negative results usually appeared quickly at some point in the future and require septic tank evacuation.
Today, the construction of cesspools is carried out after a specialized study.  The responsible engineer of the project carrie out the installation and environmental safety certification.

It is generally preferred that the construction of the septic tank be done in parallel with the construction of the building under construction, in order to make a proper design and to avoid the possible erosion of the foundations or the escape of sewage.

It is also particularly dangerous to contaminate the aquifer, as well as other sources of clean water and crops, the construction of the septic tank should be at least 15 meters from these sources.

Finally, the dimensions of the cesspool should correspond to the size of the building, as well as its needs. In other words, the bigger the needs of the building and the more people it serves, the bigger the septic tank should be.

The different categories and types of pits

The main categories of cesspools include absorbent cisterns and watertight cisterns. We can, however, categorize the construction of cesspools into four essential categories. More specifically we have:

Waterproof cesspools

This is the ones that actually trap the sewage and store it. Because watertight pits do not have the ability to empty themselves naturally, it is necessary to empty the pits much more often. This process is done with large, special trucks for emptying cesspools, such as those that Antoniou Obstructions have in their fleet of vehicles.

Absorption pits

These are the pits that allow the absorption of sewage from the ground. Essentially, their bottom is open and has contact with the soil, from where the water is absorbed. Over the years, however, absorption pits are gradually beginning to lose their absorbency.
Also unfortunately their biggest disadvantage is that they pollute the environment much more. In the beginning they need to empty wells very rarely until never. As the years go by their emptying is more and more necessary and more frequent.

Septic tanks

These wells manage to decompose the organic wastewater to create the so-called sewage sludge. The water that is absorbed by the soil then does not contain organic substances. But the same does not apply to pathogenic microbes and microorganisms, which eventually contaminate the soil and the aquifer with their presence.

Biological pits

This is the type that collect wastewater and then empty it with the help of specific microorganisms. The water resulting from this process is cleaner now and is removed immediately to another adjacent tank. From that point on, it can now be used continuously for watering plants and crops.
Thus this helps us also to protect the environment and save a significant amount of water. We should evacuate septic tanks every few years, in the case of biological ones. This is needed mainly as a maintenance metro.

Effective septic tank maintenance and septic tank evacuation

Too many people most of the time do not pay any attention to the maintenance of their septic tank. This  results unfortunately at some point seeing difficult and extreme situations. At the end this costs more money and bother them unnecessarily. Periodic emptying of the septic tank for its proper operation in the long run is practically imperative.

Sewer evacuations should be done every few months or even a few years. This depends on the size of the construction and the use of each septic tank. Fact is that with this specific process, the sewage is removed and thus the overflow is prevented. Also emptying of the septic tank helps in the smooth operation of the construction seals. As well in the absorbency of the biological and septic tanks.
